Tenebre Rosso Sangue (from ULTRAKILL) - first, it was a close second to Altars of Apostasy, then it was a tie, and here we are now, Altars of Apostasy dethroned by this. the current hardest level in the game, with the song that fittingly goes the hardest. when you die on P-2 with this song playing, you feel humiliated. but when you succeed through a room, possibly even P-ranking the level, with this song... you feel like a fucking god. an unstoppable force, capable of anything. this is like Altars of Apostasy, if it was on performance-enhancing drugs, also known as steroids. lots. and lots. of steroids. and i'm all for it. this is not just peak ULTRAKILL. it is more than that. this is peak FPS music.

Inbetween songs (songs that would fit inbetween positions on the list {no coloured numbers because fuck yuo}):
12.5. Mudroads (from BLOCK TALES) - just a happy, little, energetic bop. this song may not be anything interesting which is why it's so low, but i love it so much i even made a remix of it! maybe i'll post that someday, i dunno.
7.5. Sentient Statue (from BLOCK TALES) - this is probably the most ULTRAKILL-sounding soundtrack in BLOCK TALES, but that's not its defining factor; its defining factor is sheer epicness. and it goes HARD, just like how hard that fucking statue hits jesus christ
7.25. Komodo Dragon (from BLOCK TALES) - wow, a third BLOCK TALES OST in a row! this one, just like Sentient Statue, fits really well with the threat involved. it also has a really nice hook to it, and uhh... that's all i can really think of lmao
6.5. The Iron Cafe (from BLOCK TALES) - huh, another one... uh, this one's defining quality is just being a fucking bop. i don't know how to describe it. especially the lyrics, literally one of the lyrics is i think "brownies brownies" and yet it's so iconic that i can't not include it in the list.
5.5. War Without Reason (from ULTRAKILL) - iconic drums, alarm sound that goes hard as fuck, and just overall a banger. i don't know why i didn't add this in earlier... i guess... you could say... i had no reason to not add this sooner...
3.5. Hatred (from BLOCK TALES) - okay that's enough BLOCK TALES OSTs. (spoilers for BLOCK TALES Chapter 3 lol) this one is associated with the final boss of Chapter 3, and my oh my, was it a surprise. the boss was suffering, but this music more than made up for it. if you listen to previous OSTs, you may notice snippets of Hatred in other OSTs. that's really fucking cool and that just makes me appreciate BLOCK TALES as a whole even more than i already had
2.5. Cosmic Eternity ~ Believe in Yourself {jesus christ that is a long song name} (from Sonic CD) - 3 words. peak Sonic CD. four technically, but whatever. in extension, if the lyrics of your song send a (good) chill down my spine, that means you've made peak lyrics. and that's what has exactly been done here. and oh my fucking god, "you've got to have some faith in yourself if you want respect from your friends" might be one of the best lyrics of all time (in combination with the line before that to make the rhyming work lmao).
1.5. WAR (from ULTRAKILL) - yet another amazing addition to the legendary P-2. amazing, climatic, and probably its best feature is the intro for it. it really does feel like you're about to fight against a god (even though you don't but you know what i mean). if P-2 offers not one, but TWO peak songs, one of them being the most peak, then i can only imagine what P-3, and possibly another Prime Sanctuum like P-E, has to offer.
1.25. ORDER (from ULTRAKILL) - i thought the prime bosses' themes deserved some respect. WAR is just slightly worse than ORDER, just by the TINIEST bit of an inch. the problem people usually have with WAR is that it's pretty in-your-face, but i don't mind that actually. the only reason i ranked ORDER up higher is because of how emotional it feels. especially the fucking part where the 2-2 (i think?) motif comes in, as a reminder that Minos Prime is doing this for the city he himself created, and his corpse was forced to destroy. (non-ULTRAKILL players ain't gonna understand shit for this lmao)

Dethroned songs (no matter their previous value on the list):
1. Altars of Apostasy (from ULTRAKILL) - okay. i'mma be honest. in my opinion, this is probably objectively one of the best songs i've ever heard in my life. i literally can't think of a way to improve it. it's just so epic, satisfying, climatic, and just about everything you would want from the ULTRAKILL OST. this. is. peak. ULTRAKILL. and my mind hasn't changed. this is still peak. but Tenebre Rosso Sangue... is PEAKER.

Emotional Funk (specifically the original) by PGHLFilms - this song was originally in the list, for being both chill and a bop at the same time. but after remembering that he sent gore to someone, and also Plok! Boss (OVERDRIVE MIX) just absolutely destroying 3 quarters of the competition, i knew i had to knock it off the list. (by the way, the second part of the reason was more of the reason than the first part. i know, 'separate art from the artist'. i still like the song, but the controversy certainly didn't help along with the OVERDRIVE MIX of Plok!'s boss theme barging into the list.)

Just something about that section, it feels so awesome despite its simplicity... of course, none of the other parts have much less of said awesomeness, just that one part does it the best for me. If you somehow, somehow, haven't listened to this song, I heavily, and I mean HEAVILY recommend listening to it. As the key words said, it'll be worth doing.

Well, sadly it doesn't here, which is sad, but at least it's still really good despite that. Perhaps someone could make a version of this song with that idea?

So this is basically a battle theme version of that, with Spamton's motifs sneakily put in. I don't know how Tricky Tony did it, but the Spamton motifs actually fit perfectly somehow? And when you notice some of the more subtle Spamton motifs, the song only gets that much better. Perfectly fits the upbeat yet mysterious likeness that is the Mikes. Say, who is Mike again...?

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION (It was at #24 at the time) -- Similarly to Clicker Heroes, I haven't played this in over a year, but unlike Clicker Heroes, I don't have as concrete of a reason as to why I haven't played Cookie Clicker in so long. I'd say I got bored of it, but like, nobody would play Cookie Clicker to the point of 100%ing the game if it were boring, would they?? It wouldn't be so immensely popular if it weren't at least fun, would it????? I don't know. It's not bad by any means, and I honestly don't know why I haven't played it in so long. Maybe I'll come back to Cookie Clicker some day, and my opinion will change. Who knows.
ACTUAL DESCRIPTION -- Cookie Clicker is a neat little game! While it, exclusively as an incremental game, is very simple, there are bunch of "minigames" that you can unlock to make things more complex. Game progression does eventually get pretty grindy, but as long as you have something else to do in the background, and perhaps some assistant mods to make the game less of a pain in the ass for you, you should have a pretty good time, I think!

Not even the level editor, in which I usually am obsessed with level editors! I was even in the middle of making what was basically an alternate campaign to WYS, and I kinda just... gave up on all that? I'll probably go back to playing this one. Probably. Definitely recommend if you're good at them platformers!

DESCRIPTION -- Ah, Antimatter Dimensions, my beloved. My second most played free Steam game, and probably the highest ranked game on this list that I can put down as "niche". This game is quite a doozie and I took an over-year break from it, but I got back onto it a few weeks ago and it's as fun as ever. I don't know, it's just fun to turn my brain off and play this game. And somehow, despite how long I've played this game for, I'm not even to the achievements where 10% or less of players have gotten them. In fact, over 6% of players have beaten the game, and even though I'm in the 20% at the moment, I feel not even remotely close to this darn ending. But anyways, if you like yourself some incrementals and want something to do while watching a video, I 100% recommend this game, because it's completely free! Just do be warned, at times you WILL encounter "timewalls", where you either have to grind for an unfun amount of time, or have to wait for an unfun amount of time, and is generally the main issue I have with AD, and is probably the reason why I took such a long break in the first place.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION (It was at #24 at the time) -- Ooh, now we're getting to the more obscure stuff! I was OBSESSED with this game when I first got it, and I'm pretty sure it was back when I didn't have as much paid games, so this was like my dream game then. And despite not playing the game for, again, almost 2 years (these earlier games have a bit of a pattern, huh?), THE PERFECT TOWER II remains my most played Steam game of which is free, with 2nd place being just under 90 hours behind. It's got a lotta cool mechanics, ranging from a detailed crafting system, to skill-based challenges against bosses, to an automator which you can straight up fucking make UI for! So, why did I stop playing it? Well, at the very least back then, I reached the part of the game where you needed to AFK, HARD. Like, leaveyourcomputerovernight kind of AFK. I was getting tired of the game as it slowed down too much. But who knows, a lot changes in what's basically 2 years, maybe I'll go back to this one! Or maybe I'll just break my own promise and not touch the game again for another 4 years.
ACTUAL DESCRIPTION -- After returning to this game with a fresh mind, I can say for certain that this game is fucking awesome! Can it get boring at times? Yes... Is it unbearably slow at some points?... uh, also yes... And is it only one section that is unbearably slow that just so happens to be super important but also takes up a shitton of time?... also... yes... BUT THE GAME'S GREAT OTHERWISE I SWEAR. I've beaten the game now, and it remains my most played free Steam game by a mile, with 2nd place being Bongo Cat which I'm not gonna count because I really don't care about it anymore and it's not really much of a game anyways, so the actual 2nd place, that being Antimatter Dimensions, is uh... over 200 hours behind now! That's a lot of hours! But yeah, you should try the game, whether you like the tower defense genre or not, because there's probably something in this game for everyone! And it's free anyways so, why the heck not?

UNDERTALE

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION (It wasn't in any other rank, I just want to clarify stuff) -- Now you're probably thinking, "what in the fricking flibbity flapjack Dehy, why is UNDERTALE not #1?!?!?!?!?!!?", and I say to that... UNDERTALE is not perfect. Oh, not even close. It's a buggy mess, the idea of LV/LOVE being Level of Violence and EXP being execution points is corny at best, there are definitely better ways the Genocide route could've told its message (ahem ahem weird route ahem ahem), and the overworld gameplay is... kinda meh, but it does get improved in tobyfox's later release (ahem ahem Deltarune ahem ahem). Except for the Mettaton puzzle, that is peak. So yes, it's not a perfect game by any means, but let's give Tony-- I mean Toby some slack. UNDERTALE was his first game (well, besides the ROM hack Earthbound Halloween Hack, but should that even count??), and for his first, this is real fucking impressive. Endearing characters, (mostly) great gameplay, unique ideas, absolutely peak music, and of course, an amazing story that quite literally forces us to relate to a character in one of the runs. I'm not kidding, Pacifist-to-Genocide players are literally Flowey. And the bullet-hell RPG system? Perfect. Fucking. Perfect. So, as I've already said, UNDERTALE is not 100% perfect, but my god is it great. Oh, and remember this was basically made by 2 fucking people. 2 people. This game. What. But yeah, give it a go whenever you have the chance.
ACTUAL DESCRIPTION -- Okay, I'll admit that I sounded a bit mean when reviewing UNDERTALE, so I just want to make it perfectly clear that the issues that I do have with the game, besides the grindiness of the Geno route (yes I know it's to make a point but DELTARUNE's Weird Route did the same thing but better so shut the up the shut) and the overworld gameplay being generally slow and boring, are all very miniscule. Yes the story is not perfect, yes not every character is the best written, but why should that matter? It's still an amazing game, despite those issues. And it probably didn't help that... I've never really? Felt connected to this game? Ever? I don't know, millions, if not tens of, if not HUNDREDS of millions of people have connected deeply with this game, and love it to all heights because of it, but... I never did. Or at least, I don't remember ever connecting to it. UNDERTALE did not directly impact me, or the way I act, besides my humor. However, if UNDERTALE didn't release, I wouldn't be here right now. I wouldn't have so many online friends. I wouldn't be the same person right now. UNDERTALE is what led me to this site in the first place. So... thank you, Toby Fox. Even if your game didn't shine a new light on me, it did shine a light on something that would change my life forever... so you somehow managed to change my life drastically anyways. So again... thank you. And of course, thanks to Demi as well, for being awesome, and making this site which if it didn't exist, I don't know where I would be right now.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION (It was at #20 {somehow} at the time) -- WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! PUT YOUR PITCHFORKS DOWN, EVERYONE! LISTEN TO ME FOR THIS ONE! So, Terraria. Why is it down this low? Why do I prefer Learn to Fly 3 over Terraria? Well, let me make this clear; Terraria is fucking amazing. The fanbase is also fucking amazing, the shit people make is PHENOMENAL. With that being said, I'm just... not a fan of the game. Specifically its pacing, and how a lot of things, ESPECIALLY post-Hardmode, you kind of just have to figure out yourself. Those two aspects really bring it down for me. If its pacing was more akin to, dare I say it, Minecraft, I'd probably love this game with all my heart with all of its combat. But for now, it's kinda just... eh. I get bored of it pretty quickly, and really, it's kinda just more fun to watch... mostly because the people playing usually actually know what the fuck they're doing. So, I'm aware Terraria is a fucking masterpiece, but I just personally don't like it myself.
ACTUAL DESCRIPTION -- Yeah so scrap all the bad stuff I just said, I'm a big Terraria fan now. The information problem is still prevalent, but at the very least I enjoy myself when playing this game a lot more now! It's got really good gameplay, incredible visuals that somehow don't clash, Terraria is just all around a really good game despite its flaws! If you're a creative person and/or would like Minecraft if it was more complex, then this is the game for you!

It's got an incredibly complex level editor, a massive community, and even now, is still getting updates, bigger than ever now. It's just... I don't know who I would recommend this to, as much as it is a popular game. I'd say The Impossible Game fans (the one that inspired GD, not the Flash game), but there is no way you're a fan of that game and don't know Geometry Dash. Uh... I mean, the game's dirt cheap, and it's got a platformer mode, so I'd say it's worth a shot?? I think???
ACTUAL DESCRIPTION -- After returning to the game, I can say for certain that the game's a great fun time! I still don't really know how to describe the main gameplay, maybe a music runner?? But I can say for sure, that even if you don't like the main gameplay, that there IS Platformer Mode, so the game should be accessible to practically anyone! Also I have no idea where else I would say this, but I've constantly been seeing videos on GD talking about how it's the "hardest game ever" and actually being serious about it, which like... are we fucking stupid? It's a ONE BUTTON GAME. They're obviously not talking about Platformer Mode, and even if they are, there are games with user content that have the potential to be just as tight, that are WAY, WAY WAY WAY more complex than GD.

DESCRIPTION -- Okay I might've lied with Antimatter Dimensions when I said that was the highest ranked game that I could consider "niche". While I enjoy Antimatter Dimensions, Revolution Idle is definitely more my speed with the inclusion of the Time Flux system, allowing you to play the game at 3x speed and allowing you to speed through a certain amount of time in 10 seconds. While this game is quite different from Antimatter Dimensions in its function, a lot of the things I said about Antimatter Dimensions also applies here! Though unfortunately, like Antimatter Dimensions, it also has the "timewalls" issue. If you play the game with a fresh mind every time, you won't really get stuck for way too long, but I've reached a grindy point which kinda sucks, and I've heard the part I'm getting to is the worst part in pacing, so... yeah. But it's still in active development, so who knows, that could change at any moment! But yeah otherwise, great timekiller, me like big numbers.

DESCRIPTION -- WarioWare: DIY, at least on paper, is absolute peak. Being able to make your OWN microgames on an OFFICIAL WarioWare game?! Now that's the dream of anyone who has even lightly touched WarioWare. The idea is excellent, and the execution is... eh, it's okay. My main problem is the massive limitations. If you want to have big sprites, fucking have fun, because by the time you have 3 sprites with 4 animation frames, you're already out of space for sprites, sorry! And the programming is... wayyy too simple. It makes implementing RNG a fucking NIGHTMARE, HOLY SHIT. And for some reason, the maker for music is limited to 24 bars?? Why not 32???? But despite all of these questionable limitations (which I'm sure is justified by the fact this is a DS game anyways), I still find WW: DIY really fun, even if making things can be frustrating sometimes.

DESCRIPTION -- Now hold your horses for a sec! This entry is only talking about the demo. Don't worry, you'll see the "full" game in due time. Just like UNDERTALE, the skill-based RPG system is amazing, and in fact has been improved upon! Now there's an actual strategy to what you do beyond just "do this ACT then that ACT then spare", or "FIGHT until dead", or "FIGHT then spare"! While Chapter 1 doesn't exactly hold up so well now (it's like 12 seconds long lmao), Chapter 2 makes things a lot more interesting with more fun characters, more story, and most importantly, the inclusion of the Weird Route. The story shown here is excellent and it continues to be such in the "full" game, and of course the gameplay is excellent! As well as improvements to the battle system, the overworld has also been made a lot more interesting and interactable, with the inclusion of overworld attacks and... the run button. Thank you Tobius Foxus for gifting us the run button. Oh, and let's not fucking forget about the music, OH, THE MUSIC, it is BETTER THAN EVER, and everything's just so amazing. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention this is a fucking demo?

While I love this game heavily inspired by Celeste very much, I unfortunately cannot put it beside Celeste because of one major issue: the controls. The controls are fine for the main levels, but once you get into the EX levels which require you to be more speedy and precise, the controls get annoying, because if you let go of the down arrow even a frame before you do a down-right dash, you'll be dashing to the right instead. Now to be fair, this is a Scratch game, I don't really know how you could implement input buffering... hey wait a minute, THIS IS A FUCKING SCRATCH GAME????? HOW THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE THIS AMAZING GAME THAT I COULD GENUINELY SEE GETTING ITS OWN REMAKE ON FUCKING STEAM, ON SCRATCH?????? AND IT'S NOT EVEN PAID OR ANYTHING?????????????? That... is amazing. This game is amazing. I love it to no end, as frustrating as the controls can be sometimes.

Please, try it, I beg of you. Unless you don't want to touch Roblox in general at all right now, which is perfectly fair and understandable.

DESCRIPTION -- Balatro is an amazing strategy poker game. Originally I didn't like it as much as other people did, not at the fault of the game, but at the fault of me being a fucking idiot. But after watching more people play the game, including the famous Roffle Lite who has absolutely no main channel whatsoever, I've now seen the true colours of Balatro. It's not just amazing, it's fucking phenomenal. Not only are there SO MANY synergies you can make, furthering the shitloads of strategy the game already has, but the audio and visuals could not compliment the gameplay MORE, holy shit. When you do something right, oh boy does it feel like you did something right. When you get a score higher than the "Blind"'s required score, fire starts showing up, getting bigger as the score gets higher, and if that doesn't make you feel great, I don't know what will. Not only that, but one of the features of the game is that as the hand plays, the game gets faster over time, which I find not only incredibly satisfying, but also incredibly helpful! The only things really holding me back is that some of the Jokers - basically the backbone of 99.99% of runs - are either way too good for their rarity, or more commonly, too bad for their rarity. Hey, hands up for anyone who hates Yorick! N... nobody? Huh, that's weird. But besides that minor caveat, along with me still not being the smartest person on earth, Balatro is an amazing strategy game, from start to finish. If you've got a hand (or, I guess a brain??) at strategy, I definitely recommend this one!

Nations Forever already provides a shitton of stuff without paying, so I definitely recommend you give it a shot! Though it's decently old, so it might take a hot minute to fully setup.

The aesthetics really go hand-in-hand with the gameplay, and the developer really does show a lot of care for the community! This game is dirt cheap, so I definitely recommend you give it a shot! I really like how when you've mastered the game, the rhythms are actually pretty sightreadable. And that's another thing: the visual rhythm of ADOFAI is amazing. Perfect, even. And the level editor, oh BOY, the level editor, that fucking level editor that I love with all my heart. I could never stop making ADOFAI charts if I tried. It is so incredibly refined and clean, and it works so well, and HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS JUST AMAZING ON EVERY ASPECT. Give ADOFAI a try. Please.

DESCRIPTION -- Celeste. Oh, Celeste. Such fluid gameplay, with incredibly designed levels, and beautiful music and visuals to accompany it all. The mechanics, are amazing. The story, is amazing. The only thing I would change is just to have more. More stories to tell. More gameplay to go through. But I'm perfectly fine with what I have, especially when we consider mods. If you haven't tried this game, you should. It will change everything. Honestly, the only real flaw of the game isn't even in the main game itself; rather, in the C-Sides, and I suppose the late B-Sides. To very quickly summarise, B-Sides and C-Sides are basically remixes of each Chapter, B-Sides having slightly less rooms, and C-Sides only having 3 gameplay rooms. A lot of those rooms make heavy use of something called "wallbouncing", where you dash up against a wall and jump off of it, maintaining your vertical momentum. While I find it easier to do now now that I've nearly True 100%ed the game, it's safe to say it's really tedious, especially as seen in the extra ninth chapter of Farewell where you have to wallbounce off of a block MOVING TO THE RIGHT, TWICE IN A ROW. And the level designers must've had, like, a fetish for wallbounces, like I'm pretty sure at least every other C-Side has a required wallbounce. Like holy shit it's not the worst thing ever but is 7 wallbounces in a row necessary at all lmao
So this one issue, this one, tiny, miniscule even, issue is what brings Celeste just sllliiightly below pure perfection. That should tell you something as to how great this game is.
Again, please try this game. If you enjoy platformers in the slightest, this game will be a blast for you.
Oh also core blocks kind of fucking suck especially at a professional level they are so fucking unpredictable aaaaaa

Appearance - 6'1" dark blonde white guy wearing a grey-purple striped jumper, along with grey trousers (oh sorry, ahem, pants {even though that'd be for underwear??}) and boots. One more word: Overweight.
Powers - With the power of 6 additional artificial human souls (how these are obtained will be shown in the upcoming ELUDARNET ORIGINS!), UnderMaster has incredible powers as a human, however many of his more powerful abilities take up a lot of energy. Is this an excuse to keep the godmodding controlled? Yes. Is it needed? Yes. The powers can range from illuminating rooms, to flight, to super powerful slashes even stronger than Susie's RUDE BUSTER and Kris' X-SLASH, to teleportation, to even revival! Along with all that, UnderMaster has the power to communicate to the Narrators.

Appearance - So take TerminalMontage Mario, make him wear black and white overalls, replace the M on the hat with a "1.5", make it slightly more like the game-accurate Mario, and voila! (uhm, also is 4'4".)
Powers - Very quick, jumps up high, and his hammer hits hard, can be burnt on fire with no problem, and can be thrown like a boomerang. Thaaat's about it. Cannot communicate to the Narrators.

Personality - Lighthearted and generous, mostly so with her friends. When things are calm, she is typically very silly, cute, and likes lots of affection. However in this state she is vulnerable and can feel negative feelings like fear just as easily as positive feelings. When she realises things are getting serious, she soon follows and is more neutral.
Appearance - A 5'0" humanoid form of water, wearing a white shirt, her head somewhat resembling the shape of fire. If you don't know what I mean by a humanoid form of water, think of it as sort of like Mizzle from Deltarune Chapter 4.
Powers - On top of higher influence over water than a human being would normally have, Dehy has the power to alter reality! However, her power is limited and she can only use her power if what happens is simply convenient for her at most and no further than that.

Personality - As previously established, Jay is a know-it-all. He's not as unlikeable as people make him out to be however, definitely not as abhorrent as Jerry. Has a short temper, and generally dislikes a lot of people besides some of his very few non-haters.
Appearance - I don't remember the actual design, just imagine if Berdly had a 5'11" older brother.
Powers - Jay doesn't necessarily have any supernatural abilities, he's just fast and can fly. His speed does help in his sandwich stealing abilities, I suppose...

to start off, we have Cira's awesome Buckshot Roulette Scratch recreation, 12-GAUGE GAMBIT! it's got its own music, cpus, AND local multiplayer, along with custom item pools! now you may be looking at the project and you may be thinking "wow, almost 1000 views! are you really sure this needs more attention?", and i must say that a project named "Buckshot rulet" has 1200 views. it's really damn cool that Cira somehow made this in SCRATCH, so it'd be awesome if even more people got to see what he made!
